CROSS-PLATFORM VIDEO EDITING APP NOW AVAILABLE
Adobe Premiere Rush is a cross-platform app for editing videos that just came out and is getting a lot of attention. It used to be called “Project Rush,” and it offers a smooth editing experience on multiple devices, including Windows, Mac, iPhone, iPad, and soon Android. At start, it will work on all of those, but Android will come soon.
ADOBE RUSH COMPARED TO OTHER VIDEO EDITORS: A REVIEW
But how does Adobe Rush stack up against some pretty tough competition? For example, Final Cut, Adobe Premiere Elements, and Adobe Premiere Pro are all good options for both Mac and PC. KineMaster, LumaFusion, and PowerDirector are some of the best apps for IOS and Android. So in this review, I’ll talk about my thoughts after putting the new Adobe Premiere Rush video editor through its paces. We’ll look at how it compares to other video editors, how well the cross-platform features work, and if it’s really the best app for editing videos on iPhone and Android right now.
HAVE YOU TRIED RUSH? TIPS TO EDIT FASTER!
And tell me in the comments if you’ve already tried Rush. And so far, what do you think? Also, make sure you stay until the end, because I’m going to give you three tips that will help you edit faster in Rush. These tips will also work for other software. So, first of all, what is it and how does it compare to Adobe’s other tools like the Clips app, Adobe Premiere Elements, and Adobe Premiere Pro? So, the Clips app is a very simple video editor that has been around for a long time. We haven’t really suggested it because there are much better choices out there.
A SIMPLE TOOL FOR CUTTING DOWN YOUR MOVIES AND GETTING THEM ON SOCIAL MEDIA QUICKLY
Because it didn’t have much to offer. You could really just cut off the top and bottom of a clip and be done with it. There were some filters and very simple editing tools, but that was really all it was made for: cutting down your movies and getting them on social media quickly. Adobe Premiere Elements is a cross-platform program for making videos that is mostly made for people who are just starting out.
THE IDEAL VIDEO EDITING APP FOR MID-LEVEL USERS?
It comes after their best video editing app, Adobe Premiere Pro, which is also for skilled users and pros. So, between these three, Adobe Rush falls somewhere between the Clips app, which is a very simple editor, and Adobe Premiere Elements. But in some ways, it’s a much better choice than Adobe Premiere Elements, and based on the movies you’re making, it might even be a better choice for you than Adobe Premiere Pro.
A CROSS-PLATFORM VIDEO EDITING ALTERNATIVE
It could also be something you add to your process to work with Adobe Premiere Pro. So, this is how Rush fits into Adobe’s environment, along with their other tools. So let’s look at how this compares to other video editing apps, not just those from Adobe. I would say that iMovie is the closest thing to it in terms of how easy it is to use and how the editing is done. However, this is now a cross-platform, cross-device alternative.
A POWERFUL VIDEO EDITOR WITH STACKABLE TRACKS.
If anything, it’s a lot more powerful than iMovie, but it might not have all of iMovie’s features and options. Now, let’s look at some of Adobe Premiere Rush’s most important features and what you can do with it. Well, it does work with various audio and video tracks. So you can stack your layers, just like you can with more professional tools. You could have one video layer, which could be you talking to the camera like this, and then lay your B-roll or cover footage on top of that.
BASIC VIDEO EDITING APP WITH ADVANCED FEATURES: ADOBE PREMIERE RUSH
Now, most very basic video editing apps don’t have that feature, so the fact that it’s already in this makes it so much more powerful and gives you so much more artistic control over how you edit. They also make it really easy to import your footage. Adobe Premiere Rush works right out of the box with a huge number of file types and files from a wide variety of cameras. So, whether you use your phone, a GoPro, a DSLR, or a digital camera to take pictures, there’s a good chance that your camera is supported right now.
MOBILE APP ONLY AVAILABLE FOR IOS, ANDROID COMING SOON!
Now, if you’re using the mobile app, it’s only available for IOS right now. Hopefully, Android will be available very, very soon. But you can also record directly from the camera on your phone and save it to your timeline. There is also a “pro” mode that lets you use a lot of advanced tools. Things like the ability to change the frame rate, set and lock the exposure, which is your ISO and shutter speed.
UNLOCK ADVANCED CAMERA FEATURES AND COLOR GRADING WITH YOUR PHONE APP
There are a lot of really complicated features that you would usually have to use an app like FiLMiC Pro to lock down, so you can get the best results from your phone’s camera. You can also do things like turn on slow motion from within the same app. When it comes to color grading your edit, there are also a lot of built-in filters, settings, and other things.
POWERFUL VIDEO EDITING TOOLS WITH CREATIVE CONTROL ACROSS ALL DEVICES.
You can also change a lot of things about each of them, so you can really get the look you want. You can also add titles and animated captions to your changes very easily. There are a lot of presets, and a lot of them can be changed in a lot of ways. So, you’ll find that most of the core video editing features you’re used to seeing in iMovie and even in Final Cut and Premiere are here. This gives you creative control over your edits no matter what device you’re using.
CROSS-PLATFORM EDITING MADE EASY WITH ADOBE CLOUD
And that’s probably the best thing about this. We’ve talked about it a few times, but it’s cross-platform compatible. This means that you could start editing on your phone, and then everything would be backed up to the Adobe Cloud. You could then open it on your Mac or PC and see the same timeline or footage. You could then save it from either device, make changes on either one, and it would be updated on all of them.
POWERFUL CROSS-PLATFORM VIDEO STYLING & RESIZING MADE EASY!
That is huge, because there is no other way to change across platforms that comes close to this. You can also change the style of the movies you make, which is another big plus. So you can choose whether you want to make a widescreen, square, portrait, or even multiple versions of each type of movie. So you can start your video as a widescreen video and then use it for something else, like Instagram Stories or IGTV. You can change it to portrait with the click of a button and then just line everything up and resize it the way you want.
EASY CLIP EDITING WITH RUSH TIMELINE.
Now, when it comes to changing in Rush, it is very, very easy. You can just click on a clip and two handles will show on either side. You can slide these handles in and out to change the length of a clip or shorten it. If you want to move a clip, all you have to do is click and drag it, or tap and drag it, to move it. But what I really, really like about how Rush is edited is that they took the moving timeline from Final Cut and iMovie and used it.
VIDEO LAYERING MADE EASY WITH SYNCED MOVEMENTS
This means that when you put video layers on top of each other and video clips on top of those, they are all tied together and in sync. So, if you want to move a stack of video clips, you can just click and drag the bottom one, and all the clips that are connected to it or on layers above it will move with it. So, being able to pick up and move things around while keeping everything in sync is so cool. There is no other app that lets you do this so easily and in the way that this one does.
MOVE YOUR RUSH WORK TO PREMIERE PRO FOR ADVANCED EDITING!
Another great thing about Adobe Premiere Rush is that you can move your Rush work into Adobe Premiere Pro, even if you started them on your PC, laptop, or phone. So, if you have a ticket for Adobe Premiere Pro, you can finish all of your Rush movies and take them to the next level with all the extra features and tools in Adobe Premiere Pro, right from the projects you started in Rush.
SMOOTH PLAYBACK ON ALL DEVICES WITH PREMIERE PRO.
This means that if you just want to start editing on your phone or iPad, you can move it to Premiere Pro, open it up, and end it there. I think the last really, really big thing about this is how strong it is. We put in a lot of 4K footage and some crazy GoPro video. We mixed frame rates in the timelines, and playback on all devices, including older iPhones, later iPhones, Macs, and PCs, has been smooth. Everything just works really, really well.
LIGHTNING-FAST VIDEO EXPORT OPTIONS ACROSS SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS!
Then, when you go to export or share your video files, there are a ton of options that make it really, really easy to get content out quickly. So there are options for YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram, but the thing that surprised me the most was how quickly the exports happen. Even on a mobile device like an iPhone, it’s crazy fast. The export times were super, super fast.
POWERFUL BUT BUGGY WITH MISSING FEATURES
Now, those aren’t all of Adobe Premiere Rush’s features, but they’re probably the biggest and most game-changing ones. That doesn’t mean it’s perfect or that it’s missing anything, though. We had a few crashes with it at first, especially on the iPhone side, but they’ve been putting out a lot of fixes that have fixed a lot of the problems we were having. It’s still new, though, so I guess we can kind of expect it to be a little buggy. But I think the biggest thing that is missing right now is the ability to copy and paste your effects across multiple clips or apply a color grade across multiple clips. So right now, if you want to change the color grade, you have to do it clip by clip.
APPLY EFFECTS TO ENTIRE VIDEO TRACK OR LAYER AT ONCE.
You have to choose the clip, add the effect or grade you want, and then do the same thing for every other clip. Now, you can save those settings as a preset, but you still have to directly apply that preset to all of the clips in your timeline that you want it to apply to. But being able to apply an effect to an entire video track or video layer or to all of your clips at once would be a game-changing tool.
BE AWARE OF DATA USAGE WHEN MOVING FILES BETWEEN IPHONE AND MAC
And another thing that isn’t really a con but is something you should be aware of is that if you want to move files or projects between your iPhone and your Mac or between your iPhone and your desktop, they will have to be moved over the internet. That is, if you only have a data plan, you could use up a lot of data. So, you would want to be connected to WI-FI when that sync is happening, and yes, if you have a slow internet connection, it could take a while for your video files to move from your phone to your computer. But overall, the way that works and how we’ve tested it, it’s been amazing to be able to go out and shoot some stuff, then come back and edit it on the computer because it’s already in the timeline.
PRICING AND FEATURES
Or to be able to start editing on your phone and end it on your computer. It’s amazing how well it all fits together. Now let’s look at how much it costs. How much does it cost to get Adobe Premiere Rush and use it? Well, there is a free plan that gives you three gets, two gigabytes of cloud storage, and access to Adobe Fonts and Adobe Portfolio. But for $9.99 US per month, you can buy a ticket for Adobe Premiere Rush, which gives you access to endless exports and 100 gigabytes of cloud storage.
Now, if you already have an Adobe account, Premiere Rush comes with Premiere Pro. It’s also included in the Adobe Creative Cloud All Apps Plan. So if you have Premiere Pro or all the apps, you can also use Rush there.
THE IDEAL APP FOR MOBILE CONTENT CREATORS.
So, to wrap up, who would we suggest this for, and what kinds of processes or use cases would work best with Adobe Rush? Well, I really think it’s made for people who create, edit, and publish material while they’re on the go. If you want to take photos, edit them, and share them all from your phone, I don’t think there’s a better or easier app right now.
ACCESS PRO CAMERA SETTINGS IN ADOBE RUSH FOR INSTAGRAM STORY EDITING
I think that the fact that you can access the pro camera settings right in the Rush app makes it a great way to make things like professional Instagram stories. You can then quickly edit the 15-second clips together and send them out right from the app. I also think this is a great use case for someone who wants to do some basic editing while they’re on the go. For example, you could start your edit in Adobe Premiere Rush on your iPad or iPhone while you’re on the train or bus, and then open up that exact project and all the work you’ve done in Adobe Premiere Pro to do more editing and finish it there with all those advantages.
ADOBE RUSH.
Who now would I not suggest this to? I would say that if you’re looking for something really, really advanced and you want all the features, tools, and other stuff on your phone, you should probably look at LumaFusion if you’re on IOS or PowerDirector if you’re on Android, but keep in mind that the workflows are very different between the two. I think Adobe Rush is the best all-around program right now, especially if you want to make content on your phone, change it easily, and be able to share it and use it in different ways, like in portrait, square, or landscape. There’s nothing else that comes close to that.
LOSING ADVANCED FUNCTIONS IN VIDEO EDITING APP.
But you are losing some of the more advanced functions. So, if you want all of those advanced features, frame-by-frame editing, and a full set of really advanced video and audio tools, you might want to look at some of those other options right now. And if you have an Android phone and are looking for an answer, this won’t help you until they release it.
NEW VIDEO EDITING APP SET TO REVOLUTIONIZE INDUSTRY.
But as someone who edits in Adobe Premiere Pro and Final Cut and uses a lot of apps on their devices, I really think that this will take over a lot of that work, especially replacing a lot of the apps I’ve been using to make videos on the go and make social media posts and other things like that. I really think this app will change the game, and I can’t wait to see what they come up with next.
And I think the fact that it’s so easy to move your projects and all the footage from your phone to Adobe Premiere, where you can use all those advanced tools, is a really, really cool thing.
CUT CONTENT FIRST, USE FEWER EFFECTS, LIMIT CHANGES
I said I’d give you three tips to help you edit videos faster in Adobe Rush or any other app or tool that lets you do that.
So, the first tip is to start by cutting your information down. A lot of people would jump right in and start doing things like color grading, adding effects, and so on, but you really need to make sure that your content is all there, that it makes sense, and that you have enough to tell a story and make a video. So, start by cutting down your real content and filling out your story to make sure you have everything before you get caught up in all these fancy effects, color grades, and other things.
The second tip is to not use too many changes. When people first start editing, you’ll see them putting in star wipes and all kinds of fancy wipes, slides, and other effects that they think look really cool but actually just confuse and annoy people who are watching. So, just use basic cuts like a jump cut, a simple fade, or even a dip to white or black, but that should be it unless you’re really good or you’re using it as a part of your story to help people move from one scene to the next. So, don’t make too many changes at once.
WATCH YOUR VIDEO ON MULTIPLE DEVICES BEFORE SHARING IT.
And the third tip is to watch your video on a few different devices before putting it out there for everyone to see. Now, most content is watched on our iPads, phones, and other mobile devices, so you want to make sure that your video looks good on the devices that your audience will watch it on.
Conclusion
So I’d suggest you try it on an iPad, an iPhone, or another smart device, on your computer, or maybe even on a TV. But just check it on at least two different devices so you can see how it looks and hear how it sounds. If you don’t like what you see or hear, you can make changes. Changed y
